Slow, ugly, and rather slow.
Rear Fuselage, Part 1
Winter Work in the Basement

Winter in Wisconsin is darn cold - and my garage lacks heat. I was shooting the breeze with Mark T at Oshkosh and he suggested try working in the basement during the cold months. Seemed like a good idea. Removed the shelving and cleared the basement - the 4x12 table is coming...

Moved the shelving into the workroom.

The table came apart easily. The 4x8 sheets of MDF and plywood were hard getting down the stairs.

Some screws were hand tightened.

Building refreshments will be close at hand.

Done with the table move.

Working on the rear fuselage. Plan is to locate and drill as much as I can. No riveting. When I'm done, I disassemble everything and wait till it's warm to finish.

All bends facing front.

Progress.

Joggles pounded into the braces to clear the longeron.

Right to left longerons were match drilled.

The right and left skins are mirror images - I checked by placing the two skins on top of one another and the pre-drilled holes all matched. So I duplicated hole patterns in the Std L using a drill press.

Working on the left skin.

First, I measured and drew the centerline. Then I used a strng to check that my drawn line was in fact straight.

There is a blue line under the string...

There it is!

Drilled the right longeron to the bottom skin with #40.

Bob visited over President's Day weekend with Isabel and the children. He helped out with the bottom skin durng our breaks from playing with the kids.
